Over the last 100 years all manufacturers worldwide have eventually built this type of harmonica. Our instrument also has all the features you would expect from a modern instrument. A characteristic trait is the translucent sealed wooden comb made of beech - many players consider that it produces a warmer sound than plastic or metal (the old Version had a black finish). Wood is a very airtight material particularly when the reed plates are not nailed to the comb. The less air loss, the louder the harmonica will sound. At the turn of the 20th century there was no plastic available, so wood was the only alternative and has become the traditional choice.
